The Practice has a firm commitment to sustainability in both its design and way of operating. Working from home at Featherbrook, Peter and Clare have no need to commute, and we have been able to source much of our work from within a 25mile radius of the office for a number of years, reducing travel distances to clients  and projects

Featherbrook, the home and office building, has a number of sustainable features that we are able to use to demonstrate to clients the benefits of  careful design and detailing, and the various technologies that are incorporated into the buildings. These include Photo-voltaic panels generating much of the electricity used on site and exporting over 5000 KWhrs to the Grid during 2010. There are also Solar thermal panels on the house providing domestic hot water.  All floors are heated using an Air to Water  Heat Pump and there are centrally located high efficiency log stoves in both blocks with flues exposed and heating upper spaces. Both rainwater and  bath / shower water are re-cycled to flush WCs, bringing water usage to around 80 lt per person / day. Passive solar design means that the central solar space actively contributes to space heating on any sunny day – even when the outside temperature is below freezing.
